Pooler is a city in Chatham County, Georgia, United States. According to the official 2020 U.S. Census, the population was 25,711, up 34.3% from the 2010 population of 19,140. It is located northwest of Savannah along Interstates 95 and 16. It comprises part of the Savannah metropolitan area. The city was named for railroad employee Robert William Pooler. During the Civil War, Pooler was a railway stop called Pooler's Station. In December 1864, Union officers led by William Tecumseh Sherman, who negotiated with Savannah authorities for the strategic port city's peaceful surrender. Pooler is home to the headquarters of tactical gear manufacturer Blue Force Gear. Private jet manufacturer Gulfstream Aerospace is located right outside the city limits. It provides one of the largest employment numbers in the United States in the Pooler area. New shopping centers such as The Shops at Godley Station are bringing new revenue to the area. Low crime and a small-town community atmosphere have all been factors in its explosive growth. The area is now one of Georgia's fastest-growing cities. It also links to the Eighth Air Force Museum and the Georgia Museum of Natural History, which is open to the public. It has a total area of 30.3 square miles (78.6 km²), of which 29.4 square miles. History

During the Civil War, Pooler was a railway stop called Pooler's Station. It was the last stop before Savannah on the Central of Georgia Railway. In December 1864, Union officers led by William Tecumseh Sherman negotiated with Savannah authorities for the strategic port city's peaceful surrender. The city was named for railroad employee Robert William Pooler. It is located on the banks of the Chattahoochee River, which flows into the Savannah River. It has a population of about 2,000. The town was named after railroad worker Robert William pooler, who was a member of the Union Army. He died in 1864 and is buried in Pooler, Georgia, where he worked as a railroad employee. He is survived by his wife, two children and a stepson.

Geography

Pooler is located in northwestern Chatham County at 32°617N 81°1512W. It is bordered by Port Wentworth to the north, Garden City to the east, a far-flung portion of Savannah to the northwest, and Bloomingdale to the west. U.S. Route 80 intersects Interstate 95 just east of the city center; US 80 leads 9 miles (14 km) east to downtown Savannah, while I-95 leads north into South Carolina and south 132 miles (212 km) to Jacksonville, Florida. According to the United States Census Bureau, Pooler has a total area of 30.3 square miles (78.6 km²), of which 29.4 squaremile (76.1 km²) is land and 0.97 square mile (2.5km²), or 3.18% is water. The city is located on the Atlantic Coast, and is part of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes the cities of Savannah, Port Went Worth, and Garden City. It has a population of 2,816. The town is located near the junction of Interstate 80 and Interstate 95, which leads to Savannah, South Carolina, as well as to South Carolina. It also has a small portion of the Florida Panhandle, which is located just south of Pooler. The community is home to the Pooler Airport, which was built in the early 1900s. The airport is one of the largest airports in the state.
