Pennsylvania, officially the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, is a state located in the northeastern and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. The Appalachian Mountains run through its middle. The Commonwealth is bordered by Delaware to the southeast, Maryland to the south, West Virginia to the southwest, Ohio to the west, Lake Erie and the Canadian province of Ontario to the northwest, New York to the north, and New Jersey to the east. Pennsylvania is the 33rd-largest state by area, and the 6th-most populous state according to the most recent official U.S. Census count in 2010. It is the 9th-most densely populated of the 50 states. Pennsylvania's two most populous cities are Philadelphia (1,580,863), and Pittsburgh (302,407). The state capital and its 10th largest city is Harrisburg. Pennsylvania has 140 miles (225 km) of waterfront along Lake Erie and the Delaware Estuary. Cities include Philadelphia, Reading, Lebanon and Lancaster in the southeast, Pittsburgh in the southwest, the tri-cities of Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton in the central east (known as the Lehigh Valley). The northeast includes the former anthracite coal mining cities of Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Pittston (Greater Pittston), and Hazleton. Erie is located in the northwest.

As shown in the given Pennsylvania location map that Pennsylvania is located in the north-eastern part of the United States. Pennsylvania map also illustrates that it shares its border with New York in the north, Ohio in the west, West Virginia in the south-west, Maryland and Delaware in the south, and New Jersey in the east. Besides, it also shares its international border with Canada.

The capital city of Pennsylvania is Harrisburg. However, the largest city is Philadelphia; other important cities are Pittsburgh, Allentown, and Erie. Pennsylvania is one of the industrial states that homes some of the top companies of the world enlisted in Fortune 500 companies e.g. U.S. Steel, H.J. Heinz, and PPG Industries. The climate type of Pennsylvania ranges from humid continental type to humid sub-tropical.

Pittsburgh is primarily known for its sports and rivers, but is increasingly becoming a centre for environmentally friendly technology and culture. Art and history lovers should not miss the four world-renowned Carnegie Museums and the Andy Warhol Museum. The Duquesne Incline funicular offers a sensational view of the city's skyline. In the 89 characteristic districts of Pittsburgh, you will encounter the most diverse cultures from all over the world.

The US State Pennsylvania occupies 115,883 m², about 1,27 % of the total territory of the USA of 9,148,020 m². The total population of the US State Pennsylvania with 12,805,537 inhabitants (in 2017) has already increased by 4,27 % in this millennium. Almost 40 years ago there were 941,642 fewer people. The capital Harrisburg alone has 49,192 inhabitants.

Harrisburg was named the capital of Pennsylvania in 1812. The state capital building in Harrisburg is modeled after St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City. In 2014, Philadelphia was the fifth largest city in the U.S., with more than 1.5 million residents.

State College serves the central region while Williamsport serves the commonwealth's north-central region as does Chambersburg the south-central region, with York, Carlisle, and the state capital Harrisburg on the Susquehanna River in the east-central region of the Commonwealth and Altoona and Johnstown in the west-central region. The state has five geographical regions, namely the Allegheny Plateau, Ridge and Valley, Atlantic Coastal Plain, Piedmont, and the Erie Plain. Pennsylvania's diverse topography also produces a variety of climates, though the entire state experiences cold winters and humid summers. Straddling two major zones, the majority of the state, with the exception of the southeastern corner, has a humid continental climate. The southern portion of the state has a humid subtropical climate. The largest city, Philadelphia, has some characteristics of the humid subtropical climate that covers much of Delaware and Maryland to the south. Summers are generally hot and humid. Moving toward the mountainous interior of the state, the winter climate becomes colder, the number of cloudy days increases, and snowfall amounts are greater. Western areas of the state, particularly locations near Lake Erie, can receive over 100 inches (250 cm) of snowfall annually, and the entire state receives plentiful precipitation throughout the year.

The property tax rate of $16.00 shown here is the rate per $1,000 of home value. If for simplification for example the tax rate is $14.00 and the home value is $250,000, the property tax would be $14.00 x ($250,000/1000), or $3500. This is the 'effective' tax rate.
